Would You Like Worms With That?

Tiger Worms

When I launched JustAddWorms six months ago I had no plans to get involved with worms as my sole intention was to blog about my new vegetable garden. Because of the name many people have asked me if I sell worms and until recently my answer has always been a simple “no”.

Now that’s all changed.

In addition to the other items I sell worms seemed to be the next most logical product to promote so last week amidst much excitement I advertised the first worm farm for sale. To date the response has been positive.

  • A “JustAddWorms” worm farm is a simple set up consisting of a black ventilated base collector bin with tap which stores the liquid worm fertiliser (worm tea).
  • Two green working bins which will become home for the worms. This is where organic waste matter such as kitchen scraps are broken down and converted into worm castings (vermicompost). If you need a third working bin these are readily available at minimal cost.
  • 250 grams of tiger worms (approx 1000) worm bedding and instructions detailing set up, ongoing management and worm dietary likes and dislikes.
  • One ventilated lid for top working bin and two ventilated dividers for for the working bins.
  • Mound or black pot allows any worms that find them selves in the collector bin a way back to the first working level.

Normally a farm begins with one working bin which then expands to two or three depending on the volume of waste material and the number of worms.

The photo above shows the worm farm with the black base collector bin and two green working bins. Raising the bins makes it easier to retrieve the liquid fertiliser.

Having your own worm farm can be lots of fun and contrary to what you may think not a lot of work. If you have any questions or would like to purchase a worm farm feel free to contact me.

That’s my number there on the bin above.
